● The team
Become a gusmester
Standing with the towel in hand and guiding the room is neither mysterious nor restricted. We train new gusmesters on a rolling basis.
● What it involves
More than waving a towel
A gusmester reads the room, keeps the rhythm, chooses the scent, and gives people an experience they carry home with them. It is physical work: hot, choreographed, and at times exhausting. It is also one of the most rewarding roles you can take on.
No prior experience required. We train every new gusmester ourselves.
How to get started
Three steps to standing with the towel
01: Apply
Write to us
A short email about who you are and why this draws you in. No CV required.
02: Training
Learn from the experienced
You follow Anders and the rest of the team. Learn breathing, safety, fanning technique, and scent selection.
03: Practice
Lead your own session
When you are ready, you join the rota.
Welcome & agenda
We meet for an afternoon and walk through the evening’s course, from theory to your first saunagus.
The oils
We learn the roughly 40 essential oils in the kit, and how scents are layered.
Planning
Each trainee sketches their own saunagus: scent selection, water amount, fanning technique, rhythm.
Preparing inside the sauna
You select your oils, mix the water, and find your place by the stove.
The first saunagus
You stand with the towel, fan out the steam, and lead your first real session.
The people you meet
Meet our gusmesters
We are deliberately few gusmesters, so there is less turnover in the sauna and you can easily get a sense of how each one runs a saunagus. We have two kinds of saunagus: a relaxing one and an uplifting one. Both build gradually through the session. The relaxing one is about calm and presence, while the uplifting one carries more energy and movement.
Anders
